If you need to make any changes to your photographic image, like cropping or scaling, you have to open it in Photoshop to edit it.

When your photographic image is the way you want it you can create your Pattern Layout file in Adobe Illustrator.
1. Drag your closed Photoshop file to the Illustrator Icon on your Dock.
2. File > Save As and name your Illustrator file: "PatLayout________ "(first Name)
3. Make your image grayscale in Illustrator if you haven't already ( Filter > Colors > Convert to Grayscale)
4.Reposition your image on the page if you want to
5.Change your page orientation from tall to wide if you need to. File > Document Set Up
6.Lock your image in its own layer: Window > Layers - click the empty box next to the eye to lock the layer
7.Create a new layer and start outlining the biggest shapes with the pen tool
